  • Mount Werner: The resort's central hub, Mount Werner, is ideal for both intermediate and advanced skiers. It features iconic trails such as "Buddy’s Run" and provides access to some of Steamboat's best powder fields and technical terrain.
  • Storm Peak: Known for its advanced trails and breathtaking views, this area is a haven for experienced skiers. With steep runs and natural features, it’s the perfect challenge for thrill-seekers.
  • Sunshine Peak: Families and intermediates will love the wide groomers and gentle terrain here. Sunshine Peak is home to many long, flowing runs that are ideal for building confidence and enjoying a relaxed skiing experience.
  • Pioneer Ridge: Renowned for its tree skiing, Pioneer Ridge offers powder-filled glades that deliver one of the best off-piste experiences in North America.
  • Greenhorn Ranch: Opened in 2023, this progressive learning area features Terrain Based Learning® zones to provide beginners and kids with an accessible, supportive environment. It is conveniently accessed via the new Wild Blue Gondola.
  • Morningside Park: This high alpine area features open bowls and rolling terrain, perfect for intermediates and advanced skiers who enjoy backcountry-style skiing with resort comfort.

Skiing in Steamboat

Beginners

The new Greenhorn Ranch is perfect for first-timers, offering a safe and structured learning environment. Once you’ve mastered the basics, enjoy long, gentle runs like “Why Not,” a scenic green trail that winds down through the forest to the base.

Intermediates

Steamboat is a paradise for intermediates, offering countless blue cruisers on Sunshine Peak and the surrounding areas. The Sunshine Bowl and ridge runs from Sundown Express are especially popular for their flow and beautiful vistas.

Advanced

Advanced skiers have a playground of technical groomers, big bump runs, and Steamboat’s signature tree skiing. The new Mahogany Ridge terrain, with its steep double-black chutes, adds another layer of challenge for experts.

Tree skiing

Steamboat’s legendary Champagne Powder® and widely spaced aspen glades make for some of the best tree skiing in the world. The gladed areas on Pioneer Ridge and Mount Werner are extensive, offering endless opportunities for powder-filled descents.

Night skiing

Steamboat is one of the few resorts in Colorado that offers night skiing. With five illuminated trails, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced runs, night skiing is an unforgettable experience under state-of-the-art lighting.

Snowboarding

Steamboat ski season dates

The ski season in Steamboat for 2024/25 began on November 23rd and is expected to run until April 21st, although the official closing date has yet to be confirmed.

Steamboat snow history

Steamboat offers optimal snow conditions from December through April. December and January consistently bring about 25 cm (9.84 inches) and 24 cm (9.44 inches) of snow respectively, dispersed across roughly 3.7 days each week, ensuring regular fresh snow. February's snowfall increases 27 cm (10.62 inches) and occurs more frequently, averaging 4.4 days per week. The pinnacle of snowfall arrives in the fourth week of December, traditionally the snowiest week in Steamboat, with an impressive 32 cm (12.59 inches) of snow over 4.2 days, making it a paradise for those who cherish Bluebird Powder Days—when sunshine and light winds follow fresh snowfall.
