Zermatt, Switzerland

Zermatt, part of the Matterhorn Ski Paradise area alongside Cervinia, showcases a vast ski domain spanning over 350km, and reaching up to 3820m at its zenith.

Skiing in Zermatt

Beginners: Beginners primarily flock to areas such as Lesse, located below Sunnegga, equipped with three moving carpets and two rope tows accessible via a brief funicular ride. While this is the principal training ground, it's worth noting the scarcity of nursery slopes in the valley.

Intermediates: With about 295km of blue and red pistes, the area unfolds as a vast playground. Iconic runs such as Kelle, White Hare, and Kumme provide skiers an opportunity to meander away from bustling lift systems, immersing them in solitude and scenic brilliance.

Advanced: While there are limited black-marked runs, many steep terrains are designated as 'Itineraries' – marked, avalanche controlled, but not patrolled. Mogul enthusiasts would find delight near Stockhorn, which boasts extended, sharp bump runs. The Triftji stands as one of Europe's lengthiest and formidable freeride avenues, guaranteeing thrill and technical challenges.

Snowboarding: Learner parks can be located at Sunnegga and Riffelberg. The Furggsattel area houses a park replete with a halfpipe, rails, and kickers, ensuring an enriching boarding experience, especially for those looking to enhance their skills.

Off-piste: Zermatt offers a robust off-piste experience. Encompassing up to 38 km of ungroomed slopes, with a focus on safety precautions, the Rothorn and Stockhorn regions emerge as prime destinations.

Glacier skiing: The Theodul Glacier, situated on the Klein Matterhorn, is a testament to Zermatt's skiing excellence. Here, a blend of red and blue runs showcases some of Zermatt's finest snow terrains. The Snowpark Zermatt, perched as Europe's loftiest terrain park, crowns the Furggsattel area, promising unmatched skiing amidst glacial splendors.
