A haven for families, Geilo boasts exceptional ski schools, and for thrill-seekers, off-piste areas and terrain parks provide plenty of challenges.
Beginners: Geilo is a beginner’s haven, with wide, quiet, and impeccably groomed slopes on both sides of the valley. The Slaatta and Vestlia nursery areas are ideal for first-timers to learn the basics, while the green and blue runs from Havsdalen and Vestlia provide a natural progression for building confidence.
Intermediates: Intermediates have plenty to enjoy at Geilo, with a good mix of gentle blues and steeper reds. The Havsdalshovda and Kikuttoppen areas are great starting points for less crowded slopes, while runs like Red 26 and the mogul field on Red 22 add a bit of challenge. For those who want to keep going after sunset, Geilo offers night skiing on floodlit trails twice a week.
Advanced: Geilo isn’t a dedicated destination for advanced skiers, but it does feature a handful of steeper runs to keep more experienced skiers entertained. Red 22 and a few black runs provide moments of intensity for those seeking a challenge.
Snowboarding: Snowboarders will find a welcoming environment at Geilo, with well-groomed pistes perfect for cruising, and its three snow parks, including Geiloparken, which offers both playful and challenging features. The terrain parks, designed by gold-winning freeskier Andreas Håtveit, include elements for all abilities.
Geilo is one of Norway’s most family-friendly resorts, offering four distinct children’s areas: Trollklubben, Kikut, Slaatta, and Havsdalen. These zones include gentle slopes, ski conveyors, and features like mini-skicross and terrain waves to keep young skiers engaged. Activities such as kids’ discos, SkiPlay, and events tailored to families make it an excellent choice for all ages. The Trollklubben Kids’ Club provides childcare in Vestlia, allowing parents to enjoy uninterrupted time on the slopes while kids participate in fun, supervised activities.
Snow activities: cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, sledging, ice skating, snowmobiling.
Non-skiing activities: fat biking, ice climbing, scenic train rides on the Bergen Line, Spa and wellness, sleigh rides.
Geilo’s après-ski scene is cosy and low-key, perfect for unwinding after a day on the slopes. Venues like Dr. Holms Bar and Off-Piste Lounge offer a welcoming atmosphere to sip on local craft beers or warm cocktails. On weekends, the vibe livens up with live music as locals and visitors gather to enjoy the end of the week.
Dining in Geilo is a celebration of Norwegian flavours, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. From mountain lodges offering hearty reindeer stews to gourmet restaurants serving innovative takes on Nordic cuisine, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Many establishments overlook the frozen Ustedalsfjorden lake or the valley’s snowy peaks, adding a picturesque backdrop to your meal.
I usually book flights, transfers, hotel, ski rental and lift passes myself but this year used WeSki for a trip to Morzine. It was so much easier. Everything worked perfectly - transfers arrived on time and there was plenty of feedback throughout the whole process giving you confidence the holiday would go smoothly.
A really useful service that is so much easier to use than other ‘all-inclusive’ sites. It nicely bridges the gap between a travel agent and booking the trip yourself online. I will use WeSki every time I go skiing from now on.
We booked a late minute skiing trip to Morzine through we ski. We looked at booking the trip ourselves but could get anywhere near the price quoted by we ski. The company was excellent and we had no problems at all from start to finish. I would definitely use them to book another weekend skiing trip.
Seamless experience from start to finish. I was spending ages trying to sort out a weekend break and managed to do it with we ski in minutes and for the same price as booking it all up yourself. Flight, transfer and accommodation was all as expected and faultless.
